The RecycAl project had its 12 month meeting on the 3rd February 2015 in Dublin, Ireland, hosted by project partners Mingming Tong and David Browne of University College Dublin (UCD). Various aspects of the project were discussed including the recent modelling of the High Shear Process (HSP) carried out by the UCD partners. The work included computational fluid dynamics modelling of the casting process and finite element analysis in 2D and 3D of the oxide particle dispersion in the melt. This process modelling has helped partners at Brunel to refine the design and processing conditions of their HSP casting equipment to best meet the project goals.
The group also had further discussions on the optimum way to process the aluminium scrap provided by the Suldouro project partners. Once the scrap has been processed Brunel will use the HSP process to produce a series of recycled aluminium ingots for use in the project.
